Snoring Factors

Snoring can be prompted by a number of factors, including:

  • Obesity
  • Use of medication/drugs
  • Alcohol consumption
  • Smoking
  • Nasal congestion
  • Mouth anatomy

Snoring is often accompanied by Obstructive Sleep Apnoea (OSA), which is due to a collapse in the soft tissues of the mouth, in particular the tongue. This leads to a blockage of the trachea and 10-30 second periods in which breathing is lapsed, thus resulting in a shallow sleep.

snoring2OSA can be recognised also by fatigue, reflux, night sweats and frequent need to pass urine/bowel movements throughout the night. OSA is a medical condition needs to be addressed to prevent from headaches, short term memory loss, mood alterations, and of most concern, hypertension (high blood pressure).

Current treatment of snoring/sleep apnea includes oral appliances, continuous positive airways pressure devices (CPAP), decongestants, and surgical options.

However there are numerous side effects for these current treatments including:

  •  TMJ (temporo-mandibular joint dysfunction) with oral appliances & pressure devices
  •  Sore teeth/gums due to appliances pressure
  • Dry mouth due to possible breathing through an open mouth
  • Skin irritation
  • Nightmares with night treatments

Providing a safe, effective, and non-invasive option, we are now proud to introduce NightLase™ as our predominant snoring/sleep apnea treatment.

Using photothermolysis (heat conversion) provided by the FOTONA Erbium Laser, collagenesis takes place in the soft mucosal tissue of the mouth. This results in tightening of the airway, diminishing the snoring projection, anaesthetic free.

This treatment can be used alone, or in conjunction with a CPAP night device.

NightLase Procedure

The NightLase™  procedure is performed in 2 steps:

Step 1: PRECONDITIONING = The soft tissue is preheated to allow for photothermolysis

Step 2: TISSUE STRENGTHENING = The soft tissue  is stimulated, collagenesis is undergone, tissues are tightened to allow better air exchange and air flow resulting in less tissue vibration and creating sound and diminishing the lack of air flow by providing smother and tighter tissue around the airway system.

NightLase™ has an extremely high success rate in changing all negative attributes that result in sleep apnoea. Three treatments over six weeks are performed (Days 1, 15 and 45), with results lasting up to one year; at this stage treatments can be re-performed. Clinical studies have shown statistical differences post treatment, with up to an 80% improvement in the quality of sleep, snoring, and satisfaction.

Higher results are achieved on non-smokers, with a healthy BMI. NightLase™ is an easy, painless, drug/chemical free treatment.

Cost:  $600 per session

A course of 3-4 weekly sessions are recommended.
